Located at the heart of the Costa Brava, the town of Palafrugell is one of the most emblematic spots in the Baix Empordà. With more than 22,000 inhabitants, this Mediterranean town stands out for its balance of historic heritage, cultural vitality and a privileged natural setting, bounded by the Les Gavarres massif and a coastline dotted with coves and cliffs.
Although it is known for its coastline, Palafrugell holds one of its greatest urban treasures in its old town: a network of narrow streets, quiet squares and traditional architecture that preserves its identity intact.

The historic centre, presided over by the church of Sant Martí and flanked by medieval traces such as stretches of city wall and stately buildings, is a place where history and contemporary life coexist in harmony. Local shops, museums, markets and terraces weave together with centuries of architectural legacy.
In such a rich, consolidated context, any intervention in the public space — especially in terms of urban lighting — must be guided by discretion, visual integration and technical efficiency.

In this setting, the installation of technical luminaires by Simon responds to the need to provide solutions that bring functionality without altering the character of the place.
The Merak and Lore models have been integrated for their ability to fit precisely into heritage settings, both for their design and their technical features.
The Merak luminaire makes it possible to organise pedestrian routes with uniform, controlled lighting, without creating visual distractions.Lore, on the other hand, is a compact, versatile projector, ideal for highlighting singular elements or areas of architectural interest with a contained, directional beam of light.

Both luminaires also feature a C4 paint finish, a surface protection system designed for urban environments with demanding weather conditions.
In coastal towns like Palafrugell, where humidity, salt spray and environmental pollution can speed up the wear of materials, this coating acts as a highly effective physical and chemical barrier. Based on the standards of EN ISO 12944, the C4 treatment guarantees extended durability, reduced maintenance and a uniform aesthetic throughout the product's service life.

At Simon, to illuminate isn't only to project light: it is to understand the place, its history and its people. The intervention in the old town of Palafrugell is an example of how technology and design can work in service of the surroundings, enhancing without imposing, accompanying without transforming.
Well-integrated urban lighting not only improves visibility and safety, but enhances the identity and experience of those who live in and visit the space.
With more than a century of experience in designing and manufacturing luminaires, we continue to back solutions that combine functionality, aesthetics, resistance and commitment to the surroundings. Because for us, lighting well is about knowing how to belong.
